“Don’t you have your car keys?”
Since it was Seon-woo’s car, there was no way Ga-jun had the keys. Instead, there was another key stuck in a blue truck parked outside the garage. It seemed that the person managing the villa had forgotten to take out the key and left.
“Whelp, what is this?”
In harder times, he had driven cars worse than this one. Ga-jun waved to Miriel, who followed him.
“Get in.”
“But the other one is cooler?”
“I can’t drive it.”
“Why?”
“There’s something I need that’s missing. Stop talking back and get in.”
Only then did Miriel climb into the passenger seat. Fortunately, the truck was still in good condition. It was a little lacking compared to the vehicle he usually rode in, but the speed wasn’t that bad. It was night and it was a bit rough because it was a mountain road, but the driver was an S-class Awakened. It would be strange if something happened.
“It would be faster to fly.”
Miriel complained in the middle, but he ignored it lightly. Even if she said she could fly, Ga-jun couldn’t. How far would he go like that? They were finally able to get off the mountain and onto the asphalt road.
“Let’s see.”
For now, it seemed like they had to go to the nearest Baekho Guild branch. He could go and contact the Deputy Guild Leader and ask her to bring him a car. Anything other than this truck seemed fine. Fortunately, the nearest point was not far away.
“Arrived!”
Standing in front of a neatly erected three-story building, Ga-jun stretched out.
“Is this home?”
“No, this is not home.”
“Then where are?”
“Could you be quiet for a bit?”
After saying that, he knocked on the closed door, not paying attention even though it was late at night.
“Who the hell is coming this late at night?”
The disgruntled guard patrolling the building face came out and immediately recognized Ga-jun. Most of the S-class Awakened in Korea did not have to prove their identity separately because their faces were on broadcasts.
“Guild leader!”
The frightened guard froze stiffly, then hurriedly picked up the radio. Ten minutes after that, a fat middle-aged man hurriedly ran up from afar.
“Guild leader? You’re the Guild Leader? What are you doing here?”
The branch manager who came out to greet Ga-jun was extremely nervous. Because it was unlikely that a Guild Leader would find a branch for no reason.
Contrary to his concerns, however, Ga-jun stopped by with the intention of borrowing a phone.
‘Well, it’s not bad to be treated like that.’
He was a bit tired because he had been cleaning up after other people.
‘Even though I was not originally like that.’
A lot of his personality had died.
“Please eat inside.”
The branch manager crouched and guided Ga-jun and Miriel to the reception room. As soon as the two of them sat down, two cups of coffee were placed in front of them as if they had been prepared in advance.
“The first thing I need:”
Ga-jun put the broken phone down on the table.
“A new phone and a car.”
“If it’s a car, you mean any car?”
“Don’t you have anything nicer?”
“Ah, understood sir. If it’s a car, I’ll prepare it quickly.”
“You know the car I usually drive, right?”
Yeah, here was the normal Do Ga-jun. Ga-jun smiled and asked the manager for a few things.
Even if he took something, he could return it later. He didn’t feel any remorse. It was late at night, so the cell phone store may have closed, but they would be able to take care of that too.
“It’ll be ready soon!”
As the branch manager disappeared with his fat belly, another employee standing next to him naturally filled the empty coffee cup.
“Hmm?”
Miriel looked at Ga-jun with her strange eyes. He had seemed to be at the bottom of their party just by looking at what he was doing, but it didn’t seem like that now. He seemed to have a fairly high social status, judging from how other humans treated him.
‘Hmm. Compared to normal humans, he’s on the strong side.’
She just didn’t notice it because she had been among strong people. The minute hand of the clock hanging on the wall moved slowly and time passed.
“Let’s just go out and look outside.”
After about 30 minutes, Ga-jun spat out words as if he was bored. And after a while, there was a commotion outside.
“You can’t go in there carelessly!”
“Who are you?”
It looked like they were trying to stop it from the outside, but to no avail. Sensing the power, they couldn’t stop him.
“Haa. This is annoying.”
Ga-jun scratched his head and walked out the door.
“Stop. Han Do-jin.”
Then the shadow that drove the others subsided. However, even when the shadows faded, no one was seen there.
‘My insides feel like twisting.’
In this small time, Han Do-jin seemed to have improved again. He didn’t come, only sending a shadow. He didn’t know where he was, but to be able to separate and send the shadows this far?
“What are you doing? You want to fight?”
The tone of the speech came out violently.
“No.”
A shadow the size of a child rose from the center and opened its mouth. It is a bizarre figure as if the shadow were talking.
“Then, why are you at the Baekho Guild?”
“Isn’t this a branch?”
“The branch is also the Baekho Guild’s.”
At those words, the branch manager, who had been trembling with the new cell phone, showed a moved expression on his face. Although Ga-jun didn’t care about him at all.
“So what’s your business here? There must be a reason for this uproar.”
“Can you come over here for a moment?”
“Where to?”
“Hanbit General Hospital.”
“Where is that?”
When he asked again because it was absurd, the branch manager intervened and explained.
“It’s a hospital not far from here!”
“Why are you there?”
“It was the closest spot I could land the helicopter to you.”
“What are you going to do by putting me in the helicopter?”
“I have a favor to ask you.”
“Oh my~.”
Ga-jun clapped his hands.
“Do you call threats favors these days?”
“It’s not a threat. These little shadows cannot harm others. It’s too much for me if you say that.”
“Well then. Let’s hear what that favor is for now.”
“Please protect Ji Seon-woo.”
‘Is he crazy?’ A harsh sound almost came out of his mouth.
“Don’t you know that it’s a mess between me and Ji Seon-woo?”
“But haven’t you guys been doing well lately?”
“Do you mean that we were getting along well when we looked at each other as a cow and a chicken?”
“Please. At this rate, Hyeon-woo is in danger.”
“Hyeon-woo — what?”
Those words changed Ga-jun’s heart.
“Once you arrive, I’ll explain it to you.”
After saying that, the shadow disappeared in an instant. It seemed to have run out of power.
“Are you going or not?”
Miriel, who had approached the troubled Ga-jun with a cup of coffee, added her words.
“I’ll go. Don’t you like Hyeon-woo?”
“How do you know that?”
“I have that kind of good sense too.”
“Ah yeah.”
Miriel spoke confidently, but she didn’t seem like the type to really have that kind of good sense. Ga-jun let out a sigh.
“Yeah, fine. Let’s go.”
Because Han Do-jin was not the kind of person who would lie about something like this.
“Cell phone.”
As Ga-jun said that and stretched out his hand, the branch manager put the box he was holding in his hand.
“Here you go! I was able to open a shop to get you one.”
That was fairly good. It would normally be impossible to open a store at this time of night; he didn’t know how they did it. Well, no wonder that he was the branch manager with this capability.
“What about the car?”
“I have it ready! I was only able to prepare a domestic car in the rush, but I think you will like them nonetheless.”
“Whatever.”
Ga-jun took over the car keys and walked out of the building.
“You drank it well.”
Miriel, who passed the coffee cup to a nearby security guard, followed.
“It’s better than before.”
“Anything is better than that old truck.”
Ga-jun went straight to Hanbit General Hospital. As soon as he arrived, someone who had been waiting for him escorted him to the rooftop. There was already a helicopter ready.
While riding the helicopter to their final destination, Ga-jun learned of the situation.
“So Hyeon-woo went alone to seek revenge? Why didn’t you stop him?”
He was about to go crazy.
“Because I promised to protect his brother.”
“What? Seon-woo is lying down and resting. What’s the danger!”
“You never know.”
“Aigo.”
He felt like his head was hurting.
“So please help.”
“Why me! Call someone else! You’re on good terms with the Yoram Guild.”
“But there are still many things the Yoram Guild doesn’t know.”
Seon-woo had already confided about the demons, but Do-jin and Ga-jun did not know about it.
“Then I’d rather go. You protect Ji Seon Woo.”
“That doesn’t work. Aren’t you weaker than me?”
“Wow, you’re taunting me openly?”
Ga-jun laughed fiercely and glared at Do-jin.
“It’s true though.”
He knew he could say everything if it was true. He had thought Do-jin was putting on a calm front when they had first met. This was simply Do-jin’s nature.
“Fuck. Then can you trust and entrust this task to me, who is such a weak person?”
“Yes.”
“Why do you believe that again?”
“During our time we were together, I decided that at least you wouldn’t stab me in the back.”
He wouldn’t? It was a ridiculous story for Ga-jun, who had tried to stab Ji Seon-woo in the back of the head several times before.
That was how Ga-jun was supposed to live originally. They had lived in a world where it was kill or be killed. Far from honesty, close to villany.
“By the way.”
When he heard Do-jin’s words, his heart thumped.
